The Shimla Municipal Corporation passed its budget on Tuesday after a four-hour sitting, with road and footpath repair in the wards getting the largest increase.

Councillors from the outer wards had asked for railings on steep paths after two falls last winter. The budget sets aside money for 40 km of new railings.

Parking fees in the core area around the Mall will rise from next month.
